Gallup survey of 37 countries: Americans fear AI most but use it anyway

A new Gallup–Microsoft survey across 37 countries finds a median 81% awareness of AI but only 43% daily usage, with trust and positivity generally rising with use. The US is one of only three countries — alongside Egypt and Palestine — where negative feelings toward AI outweigh positive ones, a pattern Gallup calls the "Paradox of the Worried West." Senior scientist Pablo Diego-Rosell notes similar worry levels in the Netherlands, Canada, the UK, New Zealand, Ireland, and Malta, calling AI anxiety "a uniquely Western phenomenon." The study also finds optimism and skepticism coexist: many positive respondents still don't trust AI's accuracy, and causality between use and trust remains unresolved.
