Two sites saw ChatGPT citation surges then sharp drops; one likely Google-penalized

SEO expert Lily Ray observed two websites that surged in ChatGPT citations (tracked via Ahrefs Brand Radar) before dropping sharply — once in June and once around August 4th. Both sites have zero visibility on Google: the orange one appears likely penalized, with only 1 page indexed on Google while many URLs are indexed on Bing. In a follow-up reply she suspects the penalty stems from back button hijacking. The case shows ChatGPT citations can be volatile and diverge sharply from Google search visibility.
