Researcher bets next-gen models at half the params will match first-gen SoTA

The author argues the industry will first throw scale (data and compute) at improving models, then maximize efficiency to achieve the same results with smaller ones. His bet: first-generation SoTA models will eventually be matched only by second- or third-generation smaller models at roughly half the parameters.
