Alibaba's V900 chip rivals Blackwell on spec, but holds just 16% China share

Alibaba claims V900 is the strongest domestic AI chip. Based on HBM size and bandwidth, it's in the same class as Ascend 960DT and Blackwell. It will power a 1024-card SuperNode and 500k-card cluster—a roughly 12x compute upgrade with 6x more HBM vs the M890 cluster. But per IDC, Alibaba held only 16% share among Chinese AI chipmakers in 2025 vs 49% for Ascend, suggesting it still trails Huawei's team.
