Minerva: genome language models uncover novel ncRNA arrays in UG27 systems
BrianHie · x · 2026-09-23
David Li and Garyk Brixi unveiled Minerva, applying genome language models to biological discovery. Using Minerva, they found that UG27 reverse transcriptase systems encode variable arrays of diverse ncRNAs sharing a common structure, each templating a short DNA hairpin.
The work showcases an underexplored use of genome LMs: generating testable new biological hypotheses rather than just sequence predictions.
