Coinbase launches first fully custodial x402 integration letting AI agents pay for data with USDC

Coinbase for Agents launched what it calls the world's first fully custodial x402 integration: agents can pay for market and social data endpoints using a user's Coinbase USDC balance, then act on that data to trade on the user's behalf.
Per Yuga Cohler, the thesis is a continuous loop — trading drives demand for data, and payments unlock the data that informs the next trade. As workflows shift from human-executed to agent-executed, agents need a financial account, and Coinbase wants to be it.
The custodial angle is the differentiator: users pay x402 endpoints straight from their Coinbase balance without managing keys themselves.
