DigitalOcean has opened Managed Agents to everyone: teams can deploy harnesses like OpenCode and Codex CLI (or bring their own), connect to 16,000+ tools, and run on a stack natively integrated with DigitalOcean's Inference Engine.
- Harness Runtime runs each session in an isolated microVM inside a coding sandbox; an Action Gateway brokers credentials at execution time so tokens never touch the model or sandbox
- Sessions persist across disconnects and resume from pause in 300ms, with sub-2s session creation
- Billing is per-second active CPU; OpenHands, Qencode, and Amplitude are early users
Positioning targets the spiky resource profile of agent workloads — bursts of heavy compute between near-idle waits.
