Claude Opus 5.5 to fall back to weaker model for frontier-development capabilities

Nathan Lambert highlighted that Claude Opus 5.5 will be the first Opus designed to fall back to a less capable model for "a small set of capabilities related to the development of frontier LLMs, such as kernel development." His take: frontier capability is pacing while the ladder is being pulled up.
