X officially rolled out X Numbers in XChat — an optional private contact code system.
- Create an X Number inside Chat and share it so people can message or call you without your phone number or a follow.
- Messages land directly in your inbox even when the inbox is closed, bypassing request folders; calls depend on your call settings.
- The number can be disabled or refreshed anytime if shared too widely, and is fully separate from your real phone number.
