Toyota to Spend $6.42B a Year on 400,000 Factory Robots From 2028

Toyota Motor group plans to invest $6.42 billion every year starting in 2028 to upgrade factories with a robotic workforce, according to Nikkei Asia. The company aims to put 150,000 robots in its own automotive plants and deploy another 250,000 at group facilities producing components and materials — 400,000 in total.
Toyota has already begun deploying ELEY humanoid robots on assembly lines to learn from human workers. Workers teach the wheeled humanoids tasks requiring precise hand movements by wearing "jigs" modeled on the robots' fingers. A Toyota executive said the robotic push is not meant to directly replace humans.
