Anthropic announced Claude Opus 5.5, the first model of its new Claude 5.5 family, available everywhere today:
- Performs at the level of Claude Fable 5.1 for most tasks and beats both Opus 5 and Fable 5.1 on nearly every benchmark, leading on agentic coding and real-world knowledge work
- Costs 40% less to run than Opus 5, uses fewer tokens per task, and generates output over 30% faster
- First release since Anthropic called for pacing the frontier; external evaluators (Frontier Design, METR) tested it pre-release, and it's the strongest model Anthropic has measured on its most comprehensive alignment test
- More natural communication: key info up front, follows user writing rules
- 5-hour limits raised on Pro, Max, and Team plans
