Deel trains agent from screen recordings to automate 85% of payment reconciliations

Deel's payments team was burning 500 hours a week resolving payments its systems couldn't match automatically, with its EMEA payments lead hopping across 5 systems per case.
Their in-house back-office agent Akai took a different approach: have the best operator record themselves doing the work and narrating decisions. The agent captured screen, voice, and underlying server requests, identified needed connections (including an API-less bank portal), and asked for authorization — then built both the workflow and its SOP from the recording. A few examples taught it edge cases like odd invoice references and internal transfers, and more runs kept teaching it exceptions.
Result: 85% of payment reconciliations are now automated end to end. The author's takeaway: the old advice of "write SOPs before deploying AI" is dead — record your best operator's walkthrough first and let the agent reverse-engineer the process.
