GenAI Adoption Tracker: 61.8% of US Adults Use AI, Work Adoption Hit in 1/3 the Time of PCs

The GenAI Adoption Tracker, a nationally representative US survey project funded by Walmart, reports (May 2026):
- 61.8% of US adults aged 18-64 use generative AI
- 45.2% of employed respondents use genAI for work
- 6.3% of total work hours involve genAI, saving 2.2% of overall work time
- genAI reached 44% workplace adoption in a third of the time it took personal computers
The author notes Microsoft's US telemetry data adds county-level adoption estimates, complementing census BTOS and Revelio Labs datasets.
