Former Googler M.G. Siegler argues in Spyglass that Meta's Muse is the AI personal assistant Google should have built long ago.
- Google has the richest data trove: the world's largest email service (Gmail), likely the biggest calendaring system, the largest search engine and smartphone platform. Muse barely works without these services — as a WhatsApp-only assistant it would be a shell of itself.
- Gemini Spark lags: Google's counterpart agentic tool (confusingly, the model powering Muse is also called Muse Spark) remains in testing, initially Ultra-subscriber-only and still not fully released.
- Siegler sees three problems for Google, starting with incomplete rollout, and notes AI assistants may be becoming the new "messaging product pandemic" inside Google.
