Oxford philosopher Toby Ord estimates that an AI team burned about $20 million in compute to claim the PR of solving a millennium prize problem first. Getting a single data point at each of the other difficulty levels would take another $20M, and roughly $200M to gather enough data points for reasonable confidence intervals.
