OpenAI forms independent advisory group of mathematicians for AI math advances

OpenAI announced it is working with an independent advisory group of mathematicians to guide how it assesses and communicates new mathematical results, uphold academic standards, and build tools supporting math research and learning, aiming to keep mathematicians at the center of shaping AI's role in mathematics. Researcher Aran Nayebi, quoting the announcement, argued that at this pace anyone still dismissing LLMs as 'stochastic parrots' should be disregarded, calling such a stance dangerous and evasive of the alignment problem.
