Qwen Image 2.1 tested: strong text rendering, weak at character swap editing
cocktailpeanut · x · 2026-09-22
Developer cocktailpeanut shared a Qwen Image 2.1 experiment megathread. The model isn't perfect, but handles many tasks that previously required gpt-image:
- Text rendering: accurately generates images with specified multi-line text (e.g., a warning sign reading "CAUTION / INTELLIGENCE / INSIDE")
- Weakness: swapping characters in a Blade Runner 2049 image while preserving the original style falls short
Verdict: a viable gpt-image replacement for everyday generation, though complex edits need heavier prompting.
