After its AI solved 100+ open math problems and drew concern from mathematicians, OpenAI announced an independent mathematics advisory group: it operates separately from OpenAI, can offer unsolicited advice, comment on OpenAI's impact on mathematics and publish it; members are unpaid, self-replacing, and not tasked with pacing OpenAI's internal progress.
