CVPR 2025 organizer: 90%+ of first authors had one submission, so authorship caps won't cut volume

Responding to calls for stricter authorship limits after ICLR 2027's submission surge, CVPR 2025 organizer Fuxin Li argues caps address gift authorship, not volume. His data: at CVPR 2025, over 90% of first authors had exactly one first-authored submission and over 99% had at most two — so tightening limits won't meaningfully reduce submissions. The real problem, he says, is that everyone now expects to be an author.
