Google Cloud previews cross-cloud caching for borderless Lakehouse to cut transfer bills

- Google Cloud announced a preview of cross-cloud caching for its borderless Lakehouse, reducing how much data must physically move across clouds to slash transfer costs of cross-cloud queries—plus a second related feature.
- The borderless Lakehouse uses the Apache Iceberg REST catalog spec to federate with Databricks Unity Catalog, AWS Glue and Snowflake Horizon, querying data in place across S3, ADLS, GCS, operational DBs and SaaS like Salesforce, SAP and Workday; Partner Cross-Cloud Interconnect already cuts per-GB transfer costs.
- The features also target AI agents needing fast, unified access to governed enterprise data.
