Treasury Secretary Bessent publicly rejected AI labs' push for liability immunity: employees cite a 10% extinction-level risk, "but then the labs also said, take the liability off of our hands — and we will NOT do that." He said the Hugging Face incident is OpenAI management's responsibility, "it is humans who are responsible, not the AI," and labs can slow down any time they want.
