Creative studio tests GPT-6 Astra: a turning point for indie filmmakers?

Afterimage cofounders Cyrus Duff and Josh Lee publish a long-form essay on Every asking whether GPT-6 Astra marks a turning point for AI in creative video work. After months of experiments with ComfyUI generative workflows, procedural Python animation, and Cavalry/After Effects MCPs, their bottleneck was always control: generative tools changed everything when you changed one thing and weren't built for pro workflows. General models since Opus 4.5 could write deterministic Python editing code but couldn't really 'see' the footage. Testing Astra on real shoot footage — swapping a dish in a moving pan, adding a building to a Brooklyn street, dropping a giant parade float into handheld iPhone shots — some shots worked, some didn't, but they started attempting effects they'd never have tried before.
