Eric Schmidt: No AI Pause — 'Would You Rather Have an American or a Chinese Model Run Your Life?'

Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, in conversation with The Economist's editor-in-chief Zanny Minton Beddoes, firmly rejected pausing AI development: "We're not going to do a pause, because the entire incentive system in America is not to pause. The right thing to do is invent this future while also inventing solutions to the problems you're creating."
He said the AI race is undeniable and framed US-China competition bluntly: "Would you prefer to have your day-to-day life intermediated by an American model or a Chinese model." The remarks continue his hawkish stance: keep running fast while building the fixes.
