A simulated fruit-fly connectome tried to beat Mario 3 and failed hilariously

The author simulated the full FlyWire fruit-fly connectome — 138,639 LIF neurons, 15.1M connections, 10,855 visual-input and 41,692 readout neurons — and trained it on Super Mario Bros. 3 World 1-1 with PPO + self-imitation over 378,000 decisions.
Its greatest discovery: pressing A forever is technically a policy. It occasionally crossed the first pipe, peaked at distance 2,083, then converged to vertical jumping while forgetting Mario can move right.
