AI finds key-independent collisions in six major hash functions
thomasahle · reddit · 2026-09-21
Using Claude and Codex, researchers discovered key-independent collisions in komihash, a5hash, HighwayHash, SpookyHash, aHash, and t1ha2 — including the standard hash functions in Rust, Go, and .NET.
They also used AI tooling to prove correctness in Lean, and plotted collision resistance against hash speed, finding there is actually no speed-vs-security tradeoff.
