Paper: Physically Based Rendering in the Latent Space
ssh4net · x · 2026-09-21
A new paper, Physically Based Rendering in the Latent Space (Vuk Radovanovic, Vishesh Gupta, Adrien Gruson, Binh-Son Hua), brings physically based rendering (PBR) into the latent space of generative models.
- Observation: there is a bridge between light transport phenomena and the distribution of latent values produced by diffusion-model VAEs.
- Method: simulate light transport in the feature space learned by the VAE, modifying the rendering equation to output latent maps for physically guided content generation.
- Why it matters: unlike hard-to-control image diffusion models, this lets classical PBR techniques constrain generation.
Code is expected to be released soon under MIT.
