Developer altryne shares a real-world agent engineering pitfall: after implementing a tool router to improve tool selection, the agent's behavior degraded — when opening a PR it stopped linking to it (unlike every other agent), and the router inexplicably chose to create a "shortlist" of tools first. He ended up ripping out the tool router and cutting 20% of tokens heading into the week. A cautionary tale on over-engineering agent tool orchestration.
