Open models hit 78.4% of Vercel token volume; Chinese labs' spend tops OpenAI

Vercel CEO Guillermo Rauch reports open models hit a record 78.4% of token volume on AI Gateway (closed: 21.6%). By spend, #3 and #4 are Moonshot AI and DeepSeek; combined with Z.ai, their inference spend across providers (mostly US) surpasses OpenAI at #2.
He cautions this reflects inference spend, not revenue flowing to the open-weight labs.
