ZuckOff App Detects Nearby Meta Smart Glasses via Bluetooth Fingerprints, Tops 5,000 Downloads

ZuckOff, a free app by 30-year-old Polish developer Pawel Szydlowski, detects nearby smart glasses (Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta, Snap Spectacles) by fingerprinting their Bluetooth signals and estimating distance. Launched in August, it has passed 5,000 downloads on the App Store and 1,000 on Google Play.
Context: covert filming with Meta glasses is a growing public safety concern — a BBC investigation traced dozens of accounts posting non-consensual footage, with one video hitting 1.3M views; recording indicator lights are easily defeated by hardware hacks. Meta disabled thousands of tampered glasses and, per The Information, is preparing a camera-free version. EU regulators have contacted the developer.
