Timothy Lee (binarybits) argues that computers and the internet pushed growth back toward the 1-2% historical average over the past 30 years, and expects AI to do the same — and likely more. In his view, 3% real per capita growth over the 2030s would be "astounding". He also suggests that without the transistor and a few other inventions, growth would have steadily declined over the last 50 years as early 20th-century innovation gains ran out.
