In his paid essay "The Company That Controls the Light," Matt McDonagh (whose family office owns Broadcom shares and options; not investment advice) argues that as AI capability grows, the physical substrate matters more: training and inference both shard work across processors, and computation is only useful when information arrives on time. Copper interconnects hit bandwidth and distance limits, leading to tiny laser components.
