Reposting @Plinz's reply to SchmidhuberAI: cybernetics focused on controlling continuous dynamics, while Minsky's AI built arbitrary functions on discrete functions. The two are mathematically equivalent but use different foundational languages (PDEs vs. automata). Deep learning's renaissance, he argues, means it was reborn in the automata universe.
