AI Is Finding Bugs at Record Pace: 66,000+ CVEs This Year, Nearly Double 2023

WIRED reports that over 66,000 CVEs were recorded by September 16, nearly double last year's pace. Microsoft patched 974 this month, Oracle shipped 1,448 fixes in July, and Mozilla used Anthropic's Mythos model to find 271 Firefox vulnerabilities in a single sprint.
The author argues these bugs already existed—AI is simply helping us find and fix them before attackers exploit them, and AI-assisted patching now needs to scale as fast as AI-assisted discovery.
