Google open-sources Agent Substrate on GKE: 10x container density, sub-500ms agent resume

Google announced Agent Substrate on GKE, an open-source, secure-by-default agent execution runtime built to run millions of sandboxes with 10x higher density than standard container runtimes (1,000+ dormant agents per host).
Key points:
- Sub-500ms resume at 500+ suspend/resume activations per second
- Native zero-trust kernel and network isolation, addressing opaque trust boundaries, host escape, credential theft and data exfiltration from model-generated code
- Targets the gap between local harnesses (Antigravity, Claude Code, Codex) and hundreds of thousands of concurrent long-lived agents
- Runs on any Kubernetes infrastructure, optimized for GKE
