Engineer: Coding Agents Made Me Work 5x Harder, the Whole Stack Needs Rebuilding

rakyll · x · 2026-09-21

Developer rakyll offers a counterintuitive observation: since coding agents actually became useful, she's working 5x harder. The expectation was that these tools would take software engineers out of the critical path, but instead every part of the stack needs to be rebuilt, and it has to happen now.

She adds her own take: humans love building things and simply switch to whatever needs doing. The transition is painful when knowledge transfer is slow, but there is often so much to build.
