Agent Desktop: open-source macOS setup gives AI agents their own real user account

Jason Kneen released Agent Desktop, a free open-source macOS project that gives an AI agent its own real user account to work in — a genuine login session, not a virtual framebuffer, so it can use real apps, real logins and the real Keychain while staying hard-isolated from your session.

The architecture: an agent account running in the background, agensis-cu (an MCP server doing screen capture and input as the "hands"), and mac-vnc-server streaming that desktop to noVNC in your browser (the "eyes"), where you can watch live and grab control anytime. The author argues this beats driving your own desktop (mouse fights) or a VM (no real apps/logins), with per-account permissions managed in System Settings. Install via plugin/skill.
