Former OpenAI safety systems VP Miles Brundage laid out five clusters of AI industry attitudes toward human disempowerment: (1) those who see it as likely but accept it as long as they're involved in bringing it about; (2) those fine with it as long as humans can retire peacefully; (3) those not OK with it but pinning hopes on "solving alignment" or who have thought less about gradual disempowerment; (4) those worried about both sudden and gradual disempowerment and working on solutions; (5) those who don't really understand the industry they work in.
