Continuing the thread on the 'stochastic parrot' frame, Jack Clark says he keeps meeting really smart people who are broadly incapable of seeing contemporary AI systems for what they are, so they don't allocate their prodigious capabilities to helping civilization deal with AI progress — they sit on the sidelines instead. 'It's a big waste.'
