BBC: Not all AI workers believe the tech could kill everyone

The BBC spoke with current and former employees of major AI firms, all anonymously, and found many are skeptical of claims that unchecked AI could wipe out humanity — some literally replied "Lol" or "Haaaaaa" to the recent wave of high-profile warnings.
The context: viral doom warnings from former Anthropic employee Jacob Coxon and others urging a development slowdown. But workers at OpenAI, Meta and DeepMind told the BBC such claims are "always vague" and lack supporting detail; one former OpenAI employee who knew Coxon said their first reaction was "That guy?" The piece surfaces the skeptical side often drowned out in AI safety debates.
