FinanceYF5 · x · 2026-09-20
An a16z Charts of the Week post cites a new paper: AI codegen has doubled or quadrupled monthly new apps across iOS, Android, and Chrome, while downloads and ratings stay flat—and the share of apps hitting escape velocity (10+ ratings, 100+ downloads) has plummeted. Verdict: App-Slop is the story. Also: only 3% of US consumers pay out-of-pocket for AI products (under 1% in 2023), with the youngest cohort paying at 4x the rate of the oldest.
