Waitlists Only Work When Attached to Something Desirable

Section 6 of the thread, on waitlist timing: order matters. A waitlist attached to something desirable makes getting in feel valuable; an empty waitlist attached to an unknown product is just a form. Cheap experiments also change behavior—more people can afford to try an idea before deciding if it's sensible, some of those experiments become the next demo, and pricing affects how much marketing your users end up creating.
