heise reports Huawei unveiled details of its next-gen Ascend 960 accelerator family at Huawei Connect 2026, ahead of schedule:
- Ascend 960DT (training): Huawei's first publicly known accelerator with HBM — 288GB across 8 stacks at 9.6 TB/s, dual compute chiplets plus two optical engines, 4 PFLOPS FP4, targeted for Q1 2027. Memory origin unclear; CXMT's HBM3e may be used in limited production.
- Ascend 960PR (inference): doubles FP4 compute but with 192GB at 2.4 TB/s, possibly cheaper LPDDR instead of HBM, expected Q3 2027.
- Systems scale horizontally, packing 4096 accelerators into a single massive server.
Huawei provided no integer performance figures.
