A relayed experiment describes researchers keeping an adult human brain explant alive in a dish and hooking it to an anthropomorphic robotic hand with a microphone. No backpropagation, no silicon neural net — the tissue simply listened to piano notes.

Through pure unsupervised sensorimotor learning, the disembodied tissue mapped audio frequencies to motor movements and began driving the robot hand to imitate the human piano playing it heard.
