TypeSafe's Jev explained: typed answers in 70–500ms at $0.042 per 1M tokens
Sea_Supermarket_5891 · reddit · 2026-09-20
An independent breakdown of Jev (released Sep 15) based on TypeSafe's docs and evals:
- Not a chat model: send a state plus typed questions, get typed answers — Choice (up to 255 options), Score, Noul; all questions in one call run in parallel, answering in 70–500ms
- Pricing/limits: $0.042 per 1M input tokens, output free; 250k tok/s, 1,200 req/min, 64k tokens per request, text only
- The confidence field matters most: in the official quickstart a ticket is classified billing (0.84) but confidence is only 0.596 because 'technical' took weight — gate on confidence, not the pick
- Eval caveat: Jev scores 67.8% on TypeSafe's workflow eval, matching Sonnet 5, at $0.0004 vs $0.1174 per case and 0.4s vs 78.1s — but references come from two large reasoning models, not humans
- Not suited for writing, images/audio, or open-ended answers
