Jürgen Schmidhuber reasserted that current LLMs aren't truly creative because they haven't implemented his 2008 "Formal Theory of Fun and Creativity." The theory uses "compression progress" — the drive from finding better ways to compress data — as a single principle explaining beauty, novelty, surprise, curiosity, creativity, art, science, music and jokes.
