Story Illustrator: Open-Source Tool Auto-Illustrates Stories via Local LLM + ComfyUI
Natrimo · reddit · 2026-09-19
A developer released Story Illustrator, an open-source web UI that turns a story into an illustrated ebook using your local LLM and your own ComfyUI workflows — fully local and private unless you opt for a cloud API.
How it works:
- The LLM first builds a "visual bible": characters, settings, outfits, and tracked changes (costume changes, scars, etc.)
- It scans the text to decide which story beats need images
- Prompts for each beat are generated with the correct character details injected based on where that moment falls in the story
- Prompts are batch-sent to ComfyUI via API; you can run multiple workflows to compare and regenerate
- Output is a portable ebook with images embedded at the right spots
