RTX 4090 upgrade turns into a two-week ComfyUI freezing nightmare with no fix in sight

A Reddit user details a frustrating local-generation ordeal: after upgrading from an RTX 5060 Ti 16GB to an RTX 4090 24GB, ComfyUI-Easy-Install broke with endless errors and developed a bizarre "partial freeze" — the current tab stays responsive, but switching workflows, starting new generations, and opening the manager all fail, and the Python process lingers after shutdown, forcing full reboots.
The user tried switching ComfyUI, PyTorch, and CUDA versions, different browsers, removing custom nodes, registry edits, and even leaned on Claude until buying a paid plan. Returning the 4090 didn't help, nor did a full factory reset: on a clean install, a 10-second 30-step video generation ran fine and froze the moment it finished. The author is close to quitting and asks the community for similar cases.
