Real world isn't a simulator: why autonomous AI struggles to go physical

This thread discusses a core reason end-to-end physical autonomous AI deployment remains elusive: the real world cannot offer the near-unlimited, low-cost trial-and-error space of virtual environments.
The original post argues that AI shines in virtual settings (e.g. the HuggingFace incident, parallel collaboration in proof search) because mistakes carry almost no penalty—errors become free training signals. The physical world, however, can't spin up 10,000 parallel universes, and wouldn't let a swarm member fall off a cliff and live to tell the tale. The many iterations swarms need are simply impossible in reality, leaving a single instance essentially impotent.
