X Password Reset Protection Ships Off by Default Amid Reset-Email Floods: 8 Settings to Change

Since September 1, X users have been flooded with password reset emails they never requested. Anyone who knows your handle can trigger a reset email, and the setting that limits this ships turned off by default.
Drawing on X's help pages and recent incidents, the author lists eight security settings to change. The key fix:
- Go to Settings > Privacy and safety > Security and account access > Security and enable Password reset protection
- Once on, X requires your full email or phone number before allowing a reset, instead of just the handle
The post notes X only shows contact details as initials, so users can't easily tell they're being targeted repeatedly.
