How Infinity War Shot a 10,000-Alien Battle With 70 Stunt Performers and Simulation

Infinity War's Wakanda battle was filmed on a horse farm outside Atlanta, with Marvel planting real savanna grass months ahead. The 500 Wakandan warriors were 70 stunt performers multiplied in post; the 10,000 Outriders never existed — ILM ran them through a simulation engine giving each alien its own brain to decide how to charge and die. The crew also built a 300-foot working river with an on/off switch for resets. The crowd-simulation approach is why the shot still holds up eight years later.
